Letter Series — Type II
A series of letters is given with one or
more missing letters. From the choices, the choice that gives the letters that
go into the blanks has to be selected as the answer. In these types of
questions, the series itself can be looked at as being basically composed of
smaller groups of letters. Each of the smaller groups has a pattern of its own.
There are different patterns that the groups are made of and the way the groups
of letters are put together to form the series. With the help of examples, we
will look at different types of questions that can come in this area. Please
note that in these types of questions, the number of blanks in the series
indicates the number of missing letters, i.e. by one blank. i.e., every missing
letter is represented the letters a, b and c, may be arranged in a cyclic to
form a group and then repeated to form a series. In typical questions some
letters of this series would be missing and you: have to find the pattern of
the series and choose the correct alternative from the choices given to
complete the series. In order. Such type of problems, it is always better to
proceed from 1-1u. Choices by inserting the letters given in the choices so as
to obtain a sequence of a Particular Pattern.
Example 1.
Given below is a sew', in which some letters
are missing. From the choice, select the one that contains in order, the
letters that can fill the blanks in the given series.
.
ab……. a ………d …….bc……a……d .
(a)
cdhcabbe
(b)
cdheadhc
(c)
cdbacdbe
(d)
cdahcbcd
Solution.
a
b c d a b c d a b c d a b c d
_ _ _ _
The given sequence is divided into four
parts, each of four letters, The first letter in each part is a, the second
letter in each part is h, the third in each part is c, and the fourth letter in
each part d. I knee, the missing letters in the sequence are cdbcadbc.
Choice (b)

a..cd…..c..a…da….d…b…..
(a)bbdcbac
(b)bbcdabc
(c)
bacbabc
(d)
bcdbabc
Solution.
The
given sequence is
a
b c d b c d a c d a b d a b c
This
is a series tinned by the group of letters a, b, c and d in a cyclic order.
Starting with a, we have the groups of letters abcd, bcda, cdab and dabc,
coming one after the other continuously. Hence, the missing letters in the
sequence are bbdcbac.
Choice
(a)
Example 3.
Given

the choice that gives the letters that can till the blanks in the given series.
a-abc-ab-
- c-b b-cc-
(a)abcabca
(b)aabbcca
(c) aabcabc
(d)abcaabc
Solution.
The given series is
a a a b c a a b b c c a b b b c c c ,
In each group the number of a's are
deceasing by one and the number of h's and c's are increasing by one. Hence,
the missing letters are aabcabc .
