Mathematics or Quantitative Aptitude is considered as a very tough subject for Bank PO and SSC Exams, but it can be handled quite well with a good score if preparations are planned properly. Basic Calculations is a general problem for the candidates as it is required in nearly each and every question of the exam. Finding the correct answer is not a challenge, but finding the right answer quickly is required.
To make Calculation easy for you all, we are writing this article with the help of very renowned and experienced faculty of Paramount Coaching Institute and Career Power.
Basic Requirements -
Remember the Tables of 1-20
This you need to do it on you own and no guidance is required to do so.
How to do 1 line Addition or Subtraction

How to do Addition or Subtraction in 1 line
Lets see it with the help of an example -
Example 1
1812 - 633 + 370 = ??
Solution
Step 1
For units or last digit of the answer, add and subtract the digits at the units place according to the sign attached to the number. For the given example - .
Units Digit = 2 - 3 + 0 = (-1)
Therefore = 1812 - 633 + 370 = _________(-1)
Step 2
Follow Step 1 for all the digits ……
Tens Digit =
Units Digit = 1 - 3 + 7 = (5)
Therefore = 1812 - 633 + 370 = ______(5)(-1)
Hundreds Digit =
Units Digit = 8 - 6 + 3 = (5)
Therefore = 1812 - 633 + 370 = ___(5)(5)(-1)
Thousands Digit =
Units Digit = 1 - 0 + 0 = (1)
Therefore = 1812 - 633 + 370 = (1)(5)(5)(-1)
Step 3
Now We just need to adjust digit with negative sign, in this case it’s the unit digit -1.
As we all know, negative signs are adjusted by carrying 1 from its neighbor.
Therefore -
(1)(5)(5)(-1) becomes (1)(5)(4)(10-1)
= 1549
Example 2
Try to solve 5123 - 627 + 841 - 545 = ??
Solution
Following the above example we get
= (5-0+0-0)(1-6+8-5)(2-2+4-4)(3-7+1-5)
= (5)(-2)(0)(-8)
Now we need to adjust the minus signs, and that’s a bit tricky for this question as it has two negative digits and one zero.
So how do you plan to do it ??
Simple mathematics to carry one from the nearest neighbor, that is, the first digit on the left, from which 1 can be subtracted and digit is also positive after subtraction,
So lets start, first left digit on the left of -8 is 0, minus nahin kar sakte
The next left digit of 0 is -2, carrying is not posible
The next left digit of -2 is 5, Carrying is possible
So carrying 1 from 5, we get
= (5 - 1)(10-2)(0)(-8)
But we need to carry 1 for zero also, therefore -2 become 10 - 2 -1 = 7
0 becomes 10, but 1 is required for -8, so subtracting -1 from it, it becomes 10 -1 = 9
Units digits, -8 becomes 10 - 8 = 2
Therefore final answer comes out to be - &4792
You can try to practice this method for your future calculations, we are sure that you are going to save a lot of time.
Thanks
